The new Kinder Building at the Museum of Fine Arts – Houston will house art pieces created after 1900. The interior space mimics a canopy of clouds under a curved ceiling structure. The roof has several openings to allow for light to flood the interior space. The new building provides additional exhibition spaces, theater, and restaurant.
The project included complex and unique structural steel systems that required extensive coordination between detailer/fabricator, erector, and erection engineer. The roof structure used sloping and curved, round trusses with extensive field welded connections to create a two-way structural framing system.
The challenges involved required the Erection Engineer to use thoughtful ingenuity and practicality to develop unique solutions to the client’s problems. CSD excels in employing our vast knowledge and expertise to meet and exceed our client’s expectations.
