It is with heavy hearts that we remember Gary Householder who succumbed to his battle with cancer on Friday, October 14th 2022. There are no words to express our feeling of loss for our colleague, partner, and friend. Gary’s career at CSD spanned from 1980 to 2021. During that time span, Gary tirelessly devoted his energy to the precast concrete industry. Over the years, Gary worked with numerous precast manufacturers throughout the US on countless projects and trained young engineers in the field of precast concrete design. Perhaps more importantly, Gary worked for many years to advance the technical knowledgebase within the precast concrete industry.
Gary was an active member of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) since 1999 and immediately became a member of the influential Industry Handbook committee for PCI beginning with the 6th Edition first published in 2004 and continuing until Gary’s medical leave in 2021. The PCI Design Handbook is the premier publication for the precast concrete industry. Gary was also co-editor of “PCI Manual for the Design of Hollow Core Slabs and Walls, 3rd Edition” published in 2015 which is the definitive reference for the structural design of precast, prestressed hollow core in the United States.
Beyond industry service to PCI, Gary was active as a technical advisor to the Spancrete Manufacturers Association (SMA) for over 20 years. He advised SMA in technical matters related to precast concrete product testing and development of technical documents shared by the producer members.
Gary will truly be missed by his friends at CSD and the precast concrete industry at large.
